A richly evocative memoir about the spirit and strength of the Vietnamese people, and one woman's struggle to rebuild her life after the devastation of the Vietnam War.

  • Inspiring story of a traditional Vietnamese woman who survived a war and became an American success story
  • A personal account about the Vietnam War and what led up to it by one who lived through it

"I'm so glad to know that you escaped from Saigon and that you have made a new life for yourself here in this country … After all these years, it does seem amazing that we would end up in the same place." -- Nancy Reagan

While the Vietnam War is deeply ingrained in a generation of Americans, its history is often one-sided - flavored with blame, corrupt generals and politicians, drugs, and the Viet Cong. Autumn Cloud looks at Vietnam differently, through the eyes of a Vietnamese family across four generations. Autumn Cloud is that story. Born at the beginning of World War II, Jackie Bong Wright stands at the center of the modern Indochinese drama. Autumn Cloud follows Ms. Wright as she moves from girlhood on a Cambodian rubber plantation to school in Paris, marriesan opposition leader who is later assassinated, escapes to America in 1975 with her children, and makes a new life here with a new American husband.

Jackie Bong Wright is president of the Vietnamese American Voters Association (VAVA). After she came to the U.S., she founded the Indochinse Refugees Social Services, Inc. to resettle boat people. She continues to be active in Vietnamese Affairs today. She is married to career diplomat Lacy Wright and lives in the Washington, D.C. area.
