Diana My Tran
The Vietnamese Cookbook
Photographs by Steve Raymer

Vietnamese cuisine combines the best elements of three sophisticated cultures into the most exquisite of Asian cooking—the visual excitement of the Japanese, the quick cooking and cutting techniques of the Chinese, and the complexity of seasoning and flavors of the French. In this beautiful and authentic guide to her native cuisine and culture, Diana Tran has transformed many of the most memorable dishes from this exotic land into newer simpler versions—tailored to busy American lifestyles, local supermarket ingredients, and our increasingly sophisticated palettes. All you need is Diana’s book and your friendly wok or frying pan, a steamer, food processor, and saucepans to experience the pleasures of Vietnamese cuisine.

Diana My Tran, immigrated with her family to Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1975. Here in America, she missed Vietnamese culture’s many joyous family celebrations and feast and soon began adapting the cuisine she had learned from childhood to American lifestyles and supermarket ingredients. The many clients of this now successful designer and dressmaker in Washington, D.C. urged her to write this cookbook.

Steve Raymer, a National Geographic magazine photographer for more than two decades, has been named Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association and is a four-time first-prize winner of the White House News Photographer’s Association photo contest.
